China is currently building 16 nuclear power plants. <\/div>\n

That\u2019s 32 reactors under construction right now. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The United States? Zero. None. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our last projects (Vogtle Units 3 and 4) just limped across the finish line after decades of delays, lawsuits, and enough cost overruns to make a Pentagon auditor blush. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And then we patted ourselves on the back like we\u2019d split the atom again. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Meanwhile Beijing is pouring concrete 24\/7, welding steel, and wiring up the literal backbone of the AI age.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Here\u2019s the truth nobody in D.C. will say out loud: <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
AI doesn\u2019t run on \u201capps,\u201d \u201cstartups,\u201d or \u201cregulation.\u201d <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It runs on terawatts. Training GPT-5 alone sucked up 25 GWh – the energy consumption of a small city for an entire year. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The next decade of frontier models won\u2019t just require GPUs, they\u2019ll require reactors. Dozens of them. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Hundreds. Whoever builds the most nuclear plants is winning the AI race AND they\u2019re dictating the future of civilization\u2019s intelligence capacity.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
But in the U.S., we don\u2019t do that anymore. We don\u2019t build. We hold environmental reviews. We write ESG reports. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We let TikTok hearings drag on like kabuki theater while Beijing is literally scaling the industrial base of Skynet. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And what do we do in the meantime? We convince ourselves \u201cthe market will handle it.\u201d <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The market can\u2019t conjure 32 reactors out of thin air. That requires industrial policy, national will, and something we haven\u2019t had in decades: a spine.<\/div>\n

\u201cBan TikTok! Tax billionaires! Make sure AI is ethical!\u201d <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Meanwhile China is just building reactors like it\u2019s stacking Legos. Xi Jinping wakes up in the morning, signs off on another nuclear project, and goes back to bed knowing OpenAI will be running on hamster wheels while his frontier models chew through uranium rods.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And the reality is that the U.S. thinks this is Silicon Valley vs. Beijing, when in reality it\u2019s kilowatts vs. bottlenecks. GPUs without energy are paperweights. America is setting up folding tables of paperweights. China is building the paper shredder.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So yeah, the AI race isn\u2019t ongoing. It isn\u2019t \u201ccompetitive.\u201d <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It\u2019s done. The U.S. lost. The funeral already happened, you just didn\u2019t get the invite. <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Until America launches 16 Manhattans\u2019 worth of reactors, Beijing will be training AGI while we\u2019re still writing diversity guidelines for prompt engineers.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
