Only one of these three can get you to 100% VC protection.<\/p>\n
Yes, it’s Jiu Jitsu. Think of it as entrepreneurial karate. You see entrepreneurial Jiu Jitsu uses existing momentum to create more momentum. I wrote about it before.<\/p>\n
Getting to 100% market segment protection was tough. Here are things I did do, did not do, thought about before I executed and executed before I thought about it:<\/p>\n
-1- I didn’t pitch VCs.<\/p>\n
Selling a VC is like living with Tom Chiang. He made his money doing something TOTALLY DIFFERENT. So if it’s not buying outdoor lighting fixtures at 4.50 per 10,000 pallet and selling them at 29.oo… He is curious at-best, indifferent at worst.<\/p>\n
You see VCs press you for meetings to get mentored by you. It helps them get domain surfactant knowledge.<\/p>\n
-2- VCs consume stock like diamonds<\/p>\n
I read that diamonds can’t be sold, they can only be bought. *This* applies to stock.<\/p>\n
-3- I did mislead VCs to think I party all the time.<\/p>\n
No VC has ever gone head to head with Duck9. No VC has ever funded a company that does FICO score preparation. Why?! It’s because that VC can lose partnership credibility by going head-to-head with a “pretty boy that parties all-the-time”.<\/p>\n
As an undergrad I did go to Kams’ and C.O.’s every night. I also studied engineering, played baseball, officer at my fraternity, and worked at the Daily Illini. True story.<\/p>\n
