Larry Chiang’s Insight on Third Party Distribution

by Larry Chiang on July 18, 2016

By Larry Chiang

I see problems and take a big whack at solving them. Stanford engineers are still having problems with third party distribution. Stanford engineering founders still think the incorrect way.

Third party distribution is when you outsource, delegate and offload the work of selling and distribution.

For example,

– “we are going to wait to execute that when we hire a vp of sales”

– “we are going to do a partnership with HotelTonight and they’re going to distribute”

– “we are going to go viral. That’s our yc marketing plan.”

– “We are going to wait to execute ‘doing things that don’t scale‘ because we read PaulGraham’s essay and think to think more about think and analyze our next steps.”

Third party distribution. It’s embroiled in problems because you’re attempting to outsource selling, distribution and promotion.

third party distribution does not work very well. third party distribution works horribly if you’re a startup.

Handing out branded footballs (or slices of pizza if you’re cheap) to collect leads. That solves third party doing your sales and distribution. Footballs and pizza slices together would solve third parties doing your sales and distribution
