Minimum Viable User Conference

by Larry Chiang on September 1, 2015

Larry Chiang sees the New York Times like a user conFab. By pre-promoting content on GigaOm, premiering live events, launching “What They Don’t Teach You At Stanford Business School” seemed easy and fun at New York Fashion Week. The whole event September 9, 2009 was a prequel and sequel to fashion shows. #WTDTYASBS’s brand activated IMG’s concept at film festivals like Sundance and South by Southwest (SXSW). As CEO of Duck9, Chiang’s testified before Congress as an expert credit witness. His mentors are Gerri Detweiler and Mark McCormack who authored “Ultimate Credit Handbook” and, “What They Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School“, respectively.

New York Fashion Week is a user conference where big brands use IMG models.

My mentor would call a User Conference a conFab. His name was Mark McCormack and he’d get people together in a room. Slap up a FUN theme and let the networking commence.

In his honor, let us look at doing a Minimum Viable ConFab. This minimum viable user conference DJ’s in Eric Ries’ Minimum Viable Product with Jason Lemkin’s “First User Conference” with my franchise concept: #AfterParty (which is really Mark McCormack’s). Ideally, you’re a CS major CRO, or at least in route to your first $300 in revenue. [$200 if you’re inside the Stanford University bubble because rejection outside the bubble causes non student athletes to fold ;-]

Doing a piece on The User Conference. And why to put it at an SPG. Hat tip @Scobleizer @PalaceHotelSF

Put the “Minimum Viable ConFab” inside a Starwood hotel. There is a Starwood group hotel across the street from the Convention Center. Any, convention center. Yes, execute at a Starwood hotel like Westin, Hotel W or St Regis Hotel. Sheraton in a pinch.

Tall order. So I break it down…

Heavy!

If you are at 2-20 customers, execute a Minimum Viable ConFab

Minimum Viable ConFab is super similar to crashing an industry. Because you are crashing and your new prospects and new customers want to meet you.
