Thin Slicing

by Larry Chiang on April 9, 2016

By Larry Chiang
I swear if YC startups were Opera singers, they would want their virgin singing session at Davies Symphony Hall. I am convinced that if YC, Engr 145 students were baseball players, they would want their virgin effort to be against Madison Bumgarner at SF Giants Stadium. Yes, pitching your startup at Computer History Museum qualifies as a super big stage.
Why. Why is your first sales effort selling something you gave birth to!?!
Because selling your first time should be on the right side of the chasm.
Because selling something Main St has already adopted, should the thing that pops your sales cherry.
Because a first effort selling something that is super innovative is like trying to Pop Your Hymen With A Supermodel.
Sell. In. The. Dotted. Line. Area.

Yes, thin slice a segment to sell
When you have sold something… Then move on to selling something that exists with a small modification
