UT Entrepreneurship Week 2013

by Larry Chiang on February 6, 2013

By Larry Chiang

I listen with my entire being like an all black shih tzu

Greg Fenves said to me March 8, 2010 at UT, “What gets done first at UT, later gets copied at Stanford.”

He is dean of engineering at Cockrell School of Engineering at University of Texas. Me, I think that Professor Fenves repurposed that quote from his Cal days. Anyway, outside of his recycled quote, he is right.

Here is what I am doing at University of Texas Entrepreneurship Week FIRST before I do it at Stanford University. Yeah, I co-founded UT Entrepreneurship Week with two undergrads last year, 2012.

Remember, I am an alpha entrepreneur that is tremendously risk averse (my risk intolerance even has a hashtag meme: #RMRMRE). So, I test it all at UT *before* I install it at Stanford (or MIT– yeah, I am EIR there too).

DISCLOSURE: I started and manage the twitter feed, @UnOfficialATX, to my financial advantage since 2010

Here is what I am doing at UT Entrepreneurship Week 2013:

-1- More Doing, Less Talking

No talks. Everything we need as pre entrepreneurs has either been blogged about (which we can read, then DO) or video blogged (which we can watch, then DO).

Read. Do. Re-read, do Do Blog what we did. Re-read.

-2- More Hosting, Less Talking

UT undergrads are hosting their second Startup Crawl AfterParty. March 7@ 10:05AM

-3- More Executing ENGR 145, Less Talking ENGR 145.

UT undergrads are selling housing to silicon valley VCs who can’t get themselves housing for sxsw. ENGR145’s Anchor Concept: Lemonade and Gua Gua Guacamole

It moves you to the right on the entrepreneur bell curve
