Hearing from some industry peeps in DC that initial thoughts on the Lummis / Gillibrand stablecoin bill are that it’s mostly a marker to show there’s bipartisan pressure mounting in the Senate to get stablecoin legislation done, but also a strategic play to get them involved with the McHenry, Waters and Schumer discussions.
The bill’s moderate approach has not received a particularly warm welcome from industry or skeptics.
“They tried to make some moderate positions on some of the contentious issues like state vs federal pathway and the algo ban but they just ended up making all parties affected not particularly excited about the bill,” one source tells me.
