Okay this is a long one. But, here’s more detail on the Delta flight crash.
Note: I AM NOT AN AVIATION EXPERT.
Sources name the pilot and co-pilot of the Delta Airlines fight (operated by regional airline Endeavor) that crashed in Canada.
The two pilots were Captain Jim Henneman and First Officer Kendall Swanson (who was allegedly piloting/flying the plane.)
Sources are reporting that Henneman had worked at Endeavor for years before, before moving up to Delta, but had trouble in training and was sent back to Endeavor.
Kendall Swanson, 26, had just received her airline transport pilot certificate six weeks prior to the accident.
“ Swanson’s type rating in the CRJ is subject to pilot in command limitations due to the restricted ATP. She was new to the job, but she was hired a year earlier.
It’s unclear why it took a year to get type rated in the crj. It could be just a matter of paperwork. One report says that the year discrepancy is due to a recent change of address that reset the clock on the certificate.
So it’s unclear whether she had been flying for six weeks or flying for a year. And the confusing thing about that is that would mean she’s been a full year on the restricted ATP, that she hadn’t gotten to the 1500 hours.
As far as the type rating, traditionally it takes a person two months to get type rated and then another two to four weeks of on the line training called IoE or initial operating experience. Some airlines just call it OE operating experience. An OE is usually conducted with a check airman or a training captain.
If Swanson was just six weeks into it, she was either still in OE or just out of it. Now, if she’d been flying for a year, it does change things, but flying 500 hours in a year is easily done.”
