Larry Chiang Asks Dave Asprey 5 Questions

by Larry Chiang on June 13, 2025

Beyond is a Biohacking Conference to take place may 27-29, 2026
Let’s get our ROI before May 26, 2026. Here’s a start

Subject: Re: Interview with Dave Asprey

Q1 : What’s the “hack” that you are most proud of outside of biohacking?

Forgiveness. It’s the ultimate nervous system upgrade. Not the fluffy kind—I’m talking about rewiring your subconscious so you’re no longer controlled by resentment, shame, or rage. Most people think biohacking is just about supplements or cold plunges. But learning how to let go of emotional triggers? That’s how you stop being programmable. You reclaim energy you didn’t even know you were leaking. It’s the cleanest, most powerful freedom I’ve ever found—and now it’s programmable. Matters more for executives.

Q2: What is your 1st entrepreneurship ‘project’ that only family childhood friends know about

I was in 9th grade and selling candy bars at school. I didn’t know the word biohacking yet, but I did know that 10am and 2pm were the sweet spot for sales based on blood sugar crashes. I made $50/day doing it at a time when minimum wage was $2. Fast forward, and that same instinct helped me build a nine-figure company using data-driven personalization for human performance.

Q3: I’m an advocate of mind-body- HEALTH and their inferconnectedness… How would you catalyze curiosity in a non believer?

I’d let their biology do the talking. Put them in front of a red light panel, give them mold-free mineralized coffee, and measure their brainwaves in real time. When they feel the shift—more clarity, less anxiety, better focus—they don’t need a philosophy. They need to understand one thing: the nervous system is trainable. Once they get a glimpse of their upgraded self, curiosity becomes a craving. That’s the gateway.

Q3b: What’s your foot-in-the-door idea that causes people to change habit(s)?

I show them that anxiety is not a character flaw—it’s an energy allocation error. When people realize that most of their reactivity comes from their mitochondria freaking out, not from who they are, everything changes. It flips the script from “what’s wrong with me?” to “what’s the signal here?” Now they want to experiment. Now they want control. Now they start listening to their own data. It’s enormously freeing to learn the mean voice in your head isn’t you.

Q4: During your Naveen Jain interview, what did you learn? And in the 72 hours after now, did you change your behavior to biohack as your chair & curate 2026 conference?

Naveen Jain dropped the biggest news on stage at the Beyond Biohacking conference…that Viome now can detect pancreatic cancer with what was once a consumer product. I’ve been advising Viome for almost 8 years and I’m so proud of the secrets of biology they’ve unlocked. It fired me up to go deeper on the 187 million data points we gather for each member of Upgrade Labs. As we scale beyond 30 locations in our AI powered longevity and fitness franchises, the data is going to show us so much more about how our bodies actually work and what we can do about it.
