**Startup Weekend**: As previously mentioned, **Andrew Hyde** founded Startup Weekend in July 2007 in Boulder, Colorado. He is credited with creating the concept of the 54-hour event where participants pitch ideas, form teams, and build startups over a weekend. Hyde initiated the first event with 70 entrepreneurs, and it has since grown into a global phenomenon under Techstars.
**3-Day Startup**: The 3-Day Startup (3DS) program was founded by **Cam Houser**, **Matt Cremona**, and **Adam Azeez** in 2008 at the University of Texas at Austin. Unlike Startup Weekend, 3DS was initially focused on university settings, aiming to teach students entrepreneurial skills through a hands-on, intensive weekend experience. The first event took place in Austin, and the model has since expanded to universities and communities worldwide.
Both programs share similarities, like their weekend-long format and focus on building startups, but they have distinct origins and operational models. Startup Weekend is more globally widespread and community-driven under Techstars, while 3DS often emphasizes educational environments and skill-building for students.
