For those who don’t know, the UCs (like many large public universities) are basically a three tier institution inclusive of:1. World class training for the most competent, Ivy-level kids from good California high schools (predictable mix of white/asian/hispanic/black students)
2. Credentialing mill for the children of China’s nouveau riche
3. High-school extension for “historically underrepresented minorities” (a completely fake designation meant to exclude Asians) from bad public schools who are woefully underprepared and lacking basic competence, but satisfy the moral vanity of the administration.
Students in category 2 and 3 rarely integrate into category 1. The students in category 1, who are meant to be the beneficiaries of these schools, are increasingly being crowded out by 2 and 3, and, most importantly, receive a radically degraded experience because of the university’s need to cater to the needs of 2 and 3.
