Alexandr Wang, when discussing “how to create a gap with 99% of people,” gave an extremely simple, even brutal, answer:
Top-level competition doesn’t hinge on IQ at all—it’s about an asymmetric tilt toward extreme execution.
His three core principles:
1. Absolute focus, squeezing cognitive bandwidth: The busyness of most people is just “low-density pseudo-diligence.” True focus means smashing all your energy into the single core fulcrum, rejecting any irrelevant distractions.

2. Turn “over-delivery” into a moat: If industry standards require going 1 mile, you go 10 miles. When everyone else completes 100% per the contract, the person who routinely delivers 200% will directly scoop up all the reputation and premium.
3. Targeted over-output, rejecting purposeless internal friction: Effort isn’t blind self-indulgence—it’s sustained overload testing aimed at specific goals. Treat every delivery like a life-or-death battle.
The fairest thing in the business world is this:
Smart people are everywhere, but those who can endure extreme monotony and deliver excess over the long term are as rare as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns.
Overflowing execution is the most violent moat.
