Looked at all pitches of @ycombinator companies from W24 batch. My observations :
– Most founders are accomplished. Be it pedigree, experience or a history of building. YC bets on extraordinary founders. Stanford, MIT, FAANG is a common background.
– Many repeat founders + YC alums in the batch. Good to see women and PoC. YC has no bias. If you can build a great company, they’re willing to take a bet on you.
– SF Bay Area heavy batch. Many founders have also moved here for the batch and are planning to stay.
– Tons of AI focused companies, no surprises here.
– Atleast 50% startups have a working demo. Some have early revenue. A few have clear PMF.
– Return of B2C startups. Super stoked to see this.
– Some startups are creating entirely new categories like Airbnb did. There are no playbooks to follow here which is exciting
– The pitches are polished. YC does a great job at training founders for this.
– Ambition and determination is evident. Most startups are attacking a large market and seem to have a clear thesis of the future.
While listening to the pitches, I was full of awe, respect and gratitude to the institution that gives a sneak peek to alums to world changing startups. It’s like seeing newborns that have the highest probability of becoming superhumans.
All the best to startups pitching today on Demo Day. Crush it! 💪💪
Kudos to @paulg @garrytan @jesslivingston and all the YC partners for building the world’s most premium startup creation machine.
