Mentorship

by Larry Chiang on September 2, 2024

Of the most dangerous things that you can do mentor person for zero dollars let me repeat that because this is so counterintuitive but incredibly true if you want most dangerous things that you can do is mentor somebody for zero dollars this is the problem of an assigned mentor this is the problem of being a teacher that’s forced upon a student. There’s a saying that is so incredibly true. Once the student is ready the teacher will appear now you couple that true thing with what I’m saying, which is mentoring a person for zero dollars is dangerous things you can do. I’m gonna a couple these things together and probably one of the most insightful Video/lecture/life hacks if the student is not ready, and the teacher appears the student actually hates the teacher when the student is ready to become a millionaire the teachers just flow to you, but what happens as a student when you’re not ready you look at potential mentors as people who Are not helpful in your brain starts to come up with excuses as to why I don’t wanna do the work. Why do I understand mentorship at a level that is unmatched by any other human on the planet and I know by saying this it seems ding Blusterous. It seems I don’t know Braggadocious that a word Braggadocious it is because a great mentor was upon me when I was in athletics and I should’ve been ready for it and I was pretty much ready for it, but I still disconnected from it I’m not going to share personal silliness. I want to connect with people that don’t need the story. They don’t need the emotional connection to run with this to go and then disconnect from me. I don’t need to be connected to you on every lock step thing this isn’t a Relationship where we step perfectly in friendship, why are we not friends because I bring to this relationship all the prior work all the money and all the prior knowledge and majority of the future work and so we’re gonna disconnect and that’s the whole when a female is looking for a high value male and then they realize oh my God this person‘s next level this person who is a high-value man he’s up at 5:30. He has his tremendous work ethic. He has his full and vibrant life. I can’t keep up, the disconnect because you want to connect with me in an unequal partnership not I, but your future mentor where I never had that I never wanted to be friends with my mentor because prior to my meeting my mentor I had three terrific uncles who were not kind of a jerk, but they were holding me accountable when the student is ready the teacher will appear Mentoring people for zero dollars is incredibly dangerous work did my uncles mentor me for zero dollars did my uncles mentor me for zero dollars yes they charge me zero dollars but I had to pay a price and that’s the mentor Min priming the pump do you see why this is some of the most genius stuff ever because if you don’t have a strong dad who was a great mentor to you who provided brothers who also mentored you you’re gonna be an unequal footing I’m not gonna say you’re not gonna reach my level I’m not gonna say that you’re not gonna reach your greatest level because this weekend is unlimited power we are going to realize that mentorship has a price and my uncles. They were charging zero dollars but I had to pay a price of doing prior work or else they would not give me time. Remember mentoring somebody for zero dollars is incredibly dangerous but what did my uncles have for me? They had big love, they had a care about my well-being because they necessarily love my dad. I mean they love them but they didn’t necessarily like him but his kid I feel sorry for him so I’m gonna mentor him and then now there’s that push pole dynamic of hey uncle, did I learn this correctly? Hey David Chiang when you’re talking about getting, superseded by your cousin because your dad picked oh I’m gonna try a little bit because your dad picked another relative before he picked his son like like how did that? How did that impact your messaging to me? David Chiang his father is my dad‘s first oldest uncle first oldest uncle had a business doing roller chain he picked the second Uncles third son in the pecking order uncle John cousin John Chang flanked the older brother of his older uncle and so he leveled up who told me the story as a cautionary tale David Chiang
