Satoshi Nakamoto’s birthday is listed as April 5, 1975, according to the profile they registered on the P2P Foundation forum, where they first announced Bitcoin. However, since “Satoshi Nakamoto” is a pseudonym and their true identity remains unknown, it’s uncertain whether this is their actual birth date or a symbolic choice. Many in the Bitcoin community speculate that April 5 was chosen deliberately, as it coincides with the date in 1933 when U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 6102, banning private gold ownership—a move some see as aligning with Bitcoin’s ethos of financial autonomy. The year 1975 might also nod to the end of that gold ban, though this is all conjecture given Nakamoto’s anonymity. So, while we mark April 5 as their “birthday,” it’s more a commemorative date than a confirmed fact. Today, coincidentally, is April 5, 2025—making it the 50th anniversary of that listed date!
