**ACT 1 (Formerly Act 4): THE WANDERING**
*EXT. ROMAN COLOSSEUM – DAY*
The roar of the crowd fills the arena. BARABBAS, now older, scarred, and hardened, fights as a gladiator slave. Bloodied sand, beasts, opponents—he dispatches them mechanically, but his eyes are distant, haunted.
Flash cuts: quick glimpses of chains, crucifixion shadows, a woman’s dying face.
In the gladiator cells at night, Barabbas stares at the wall. He meets CLAUDIA, Pilate’s wife, now a secret Christian convert visiting the prisoners.
CLAUDIA
(whispering)
I dreamed of an innocent man years ago. The blood still haunts me. And you… you were there that day.
BARABBAS
(hoarse)
I was the one who walked free.
Claudia presses a small cross into his hand. Later, during an arena riot, Barabbas escapes into the chaos, fleeing Rome.
*EXT. WILDERNESS ROAD – NIGHT*
Exhausted, he collapses. A vision: PETER, the apostle, appears (or in reality finds him).
PETER
You are Barabbas. The one released. He died for you that day.
Barabbas is baptized in a stream at dawn.
PETER
You were son of the father. Now become son of the true Father.
But doubt lingers. Roman patrols hunt escaped gladiators. Barabbas knows his time is short.
As soldiers close in, he whispers:
BARABBAS
It began that Passover…
*DISSOLVE TO FLASHBACK:*
**ACT 2 (Formerly Act 1): THE RELEASE**
*EXT. JERUSALEM – PILATE’S COURTYARD – DAY*
The sun beats down on a chaotic crowd. PONTIUS PILATE on the balcony.
PILATE
Whom shall I release? Barabbas… or Jesus, called the Christ?
CROWD
Barabbas! Release Barabbas!
Younger BARABBAS, rugged and defiant, smirks in disbelief as his chains fall. Jesus meets his eyes—calm, knowing. Pilate washes his hands.
Barabbas stumbles into the crowd, free. He vanishes into alleys.
*INT. TAVERN – NIGHT*
With comrades JUDAS and LEAH.
JUDAS
The gods—or that preacher’s curse—saved you.
BARABBAS
(uneasy)
He looked at me like he chose this.
Leah urges rebellion. Barabbas hesitates.
**END OF ACT 2**
**ACT 3 (Formerly Act 2): THE HAUNTING**
*EXT. JUDEAN HILLS – DAY*
Barabbas watches the crucifixion from afar. Darkness falls; earthquake.
BARABBAS
(kneeling)
Why him? Why not me?
*INT. HIDDEN CAVE – NIGHT*
With bandits led by SILAS. Raids, kills—but spares a boy. Nightmares of Jesus calling him “son.”
Leah finds him; they share passion, but he pulls away.
Later, secretly meets MARY MAGDALENE.
MARY
He died for sinners. Even you.
Rumors of empty tomb shake him.
**END OF ACT 3**
**ACT 4 (Formerly Act 3): THE REBELLION**
*EXT. JERUSALEM STREETS – YEARS LATER*
Barabbas leads insurgents. Clashes with SIMON, a pacifist ex-disciple.
SIMON
The Nazarene taught peace.
BARABBAS
Rome crucifies peace.
Raid succeeds; Judas dies, Leah mortally wounded.
LEAH
(dying)
Find your peace… not in blood.
Vision of Jesus offering water.
Barabbas abandons rebellion, wanders alone.
**END OF ACT 4**
**ACT 5: THE REDEMPTION**
*CUT BACK TO PRESENT:*
*EXT. MARTYR’S HILL – DAY*
Captured Barabbas nailed to a cross. Soldiers mock; a few Christians pray below.
BARABBAS
(whispering)
Forgive me… for I knew not.
Vision: Jesus beside him.
JESUS (VISION)
Today, you will be with me in paradise.
He dies peacefully.
*FADE TO:*
*EXT. EMPTY TOMB – DAWN (SYMBOLIC)*
Light breaks over the empty tomb.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
In the shadow of one cross, the guilty found grace. Barabbas, son of the father, became a son redeemed—through the One who first died in his place.
