This happens because:
Boss, who has a headache: You’ve been tasked with a compostable lid
Manager With 27 years Experience: but we just switched to the new recyclable one
Boss: compostable is the new recyclable
Manager: but compostable only works if they’re commercially composted
Boss: no one separates recyclables
Manager: if compostables are put in the trash, they won’t compost. That requires oxygen
Boss: huh? Anyway, let’s do the rigid one
Manager: that one tastes bad
Boss: hmm what about that other one?
Manager: leaks
Boss: what about the IP one? I like that lid
Manager: recyclable, not compostable
Boss: um
Manager: this one is compostable, but only in municipalities that start with the letters N, S and V
Boss: what about…
Manager: high leak rate, also not compostable
Boss: let’s just do the paper one
Manager: it’s literally the most hated lid
Boss: but it’s compostable?
Manager: in 37% of municipalities and if actually separated from the trash into compost
Boss: uhhhhh does it leak?
Manager: nah not too bad
Boss: done! Let’s bring it in, but only for airports
Manager: only airports? but the municipalities…
Boss: airports!
