*One Piece* is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they search for the greatest treasure in the world, known as “One Piece,” to become the Pirate King. The story is set in a vast, fantastical world of oceans and islands, filled with unique characters, epic battles, and themes of friendship, adventure, and perseverance.
The manga, serialized in Shueisha’s *Weekly Shōnen Jump* since July 1997, is one of the longest-running and best-selling manga series, with over 1,000 chapters and 100+ volumes. It has been adapted into a highly successful anime by Toei Animation, starting in 1999, with over 1,000 episodes, as well as multiple films, video games, and other media. A live-action adaptation by Netflix premiered in 2023, with a second season in production.
The “One Piece” treasure is central to the plot, left behind by the legendary Pirate King Gol D. Roger, sparking the Great Pirate Era. The series is known for its rich world-building, emotional depth, and blend of humor and action. It’s currently in its final saga, with recent chapters (as of August 2025) focusing on the Egghead Arc and major revelations about the world’s history.
