Treasure Management of Sleep Quality

Mouth Taping [Transcript]:
Ben, I was wondering what you think about mouth taping for sleep. I’ve been doing it and I don’t think I’ve really noticed any change in my sleep metrics, but I do think I fall asleep faster when I wake up at night, almost as if there’s like one less thing to think about.
Mouth taping for sleep, it is something that a lot of people who tend to not nasal breathe during sleep find to be helpful because it appears to assist with oxygenation, reduction of sleep apnea, improved sleep quality, and a lot of it is related to a reduction in heart rate related to more parasympathetic nervous system activity during sleep.
You would first need to know what kind of sleeper you are to know if it would be very beneficial for you. What I mean by what kind of sleeper you are is do you snore? Do you sleep with your mouth open? Do you have sleep apnea? Probably the two best ways to do this is to get like a overnight pulse oximeter.
you can measure with an overnight pulse oximeter or you can get an app like SleepSpace and do a noise measurement while you’re asleep to see if you’re snoring. You can also see if your heart rate tends to be elevated or fluctuate quite a bit during a night of sleep. Now let’s say that’s the case.
You could then mouth tape, and when you mouth tape, you would pay attention to your sleep data.
Usually the noise you make during sleep, such as in the sleep space, or your heart rate with something like Quora or Whoop. And if you mouth tape and you see a reduction in heart rate during the night of sleep, or reduction in noise, snoring, etc., or an overall improvement in sleep quality, there’s your answer. It helps you, and it does help a lot of people.
For more on this, I would look at a book like Jaws, a great book on breathing, nasal breathing, jaw obstruction, teeth obstruction, apnea, etc. And then also, a couple brands, SomniFix is good. Another one is Hostage Tape for people with hairier faces. So there’s a couple options for you.image3.jpeg
