Using Your Cell as a Two Factor Authentication

by Larry Chiang on May 26, 2017

By Larry Chiang

You smartphone is a horrible 2FA device!

Friends: this is an important step to take with your wireless carrier: hackers are calling carriers pretending to be a subscriber, stealing their phone number and then hacking all your accounts (email, gmail, apps, bank, brokerage firm, retirement accounts, car loan, mortgage, checking account, debit cards BAD and credit card accounts) because most people use their cell as a 2-factor device.

do NOT use your iPhone as a 2FA device

a) Set a passcode/PIN on your account
b) Make sure it applies to ALL account changes
c) Make sure it applies to all numbers on the account
d) Ask them what happens if you forget the passcode
e) Ask them what happens if you lose that too
f) Institute a port freeze
g) Institute a SIM lock

Thanks Adam Jackson!
