Motherhood

by Larry Chiang on April 25, 2024

I think every mother on their motherhood journey loses themselves a bit along the way.
Self care drops. Your baby needs and wants you. And all you want is a hot shower alone.
The woman you used to see in the mirror is gone.
Your boobs leak milk as you sleep and you wake in a fog yet again.
Months pass by and then the first year.
Your baby is now mobile and you still just want a hot shower alone.
Your back aches from poor posture and saggy bits on your body settle in.
You’re desperate to find motivation but can’t find it any where.
You’re desperate for more energy but tap out for naps.
You come to the realization it’s hard. Harder than you ever thought possible.
You look at your baby and heart fills with joy. You look down at your body and wanna cry.
Weak. Soft. Stretched. Embarrassed. And so freakn tired.
There’s a voice inside that whispers, “You used to be able to do….”
And your mind can’t find the solution.
The mountain is too high. The path too long. The storm of doubt and overwhelm is raging.
I feel you. I’ve been you.
I want you to know it will never get easier.
I’m not gonna sugar coat it. The work is hard but worth it.
Not for the looks and whatever weight on the scales but for your self-esteem woman!
For your soul. For the woman that once had a bounce in her step and smile on her face.
The work and one-step forward today is all you can ever do.
Go with a messy start.
A perfectly imperfect shit-show of however you can show up today.
Then do that again tomorrow or maybe the next day.
That is how you move the needle.
That is how you rebuild your soul and strength to stand up and look your doubts and excuses in the mirror and say with confidence, ‘F**k you. You’re not welcome anymore.
I choose Me and I am worth it.’
The end.
