What a Supermodel Can Teach Supermodels

by Larry Chiang on October 23, 2013

By Larry Chiang Supermodel to supermodel mentorship is some of the best real world education. Learning from me as a street smart supermodel is cheap and easy. Have you seen me car ad, hotel ad or computer software print ad?? Well, I supermodel pretty hard 7-10 hours per month to maintain that Elite status (I do it for the under privileged youth kids I send to camp) w a NYC Fashion Week Date Package. Ok here are five ideas that will rock your world: Supermodel Mirror Management Do not let the mirror manage you. Conjure up what you want the mirror to see. This breaks down into about 30 sub-points. Look, it is fine that you’re vain. But exude a presence outward. PROBLEM: Supermodels navel gaze into their face. This is inward and vapid. My internal dialog when I am on a Christmas sweater shoot in 105 degree weather is: all on external deliverables. Do I deliver the fact that this sweater is keeping me toasty? Heck yes!!! Do I deliver the message that your life would be made better with the same exact sweater I’m wearing right now? #Obvi!! A mirror is not a camera lens. Mirrors lie. Camera, kids, puppies and cameras do not lie. I said camera twice because cameras don’t lie. Mirrors lie. Internal deliverable. Just like how some companies can’t execute, that means they are just focusing on the internal deliverables. The external deliverables are the challenging part. I know I just sounded like a business exec and not a Supermodel, but I did deliver a keynote one time at Stanford University. A keynote is like a runway show where instead of showcasing my strut, I showcase what my mentor taught me. Via speaking. You see, I see my face as a natural resource. You don’t think a pile of rare gems ever looks at a mirror do you? Rare gems get-looked-at. Sometimes even with an oculus (is that the eyeball magnifier device) Be the rare gem you are and stop looking into mirrors in public. The feedback loop is too quick when you look into a mirror. Next time your with a sub-par, also-ran model in front of a mirror, do not look at the mirror. Look at the sub-standard model looking at themselves, in the mirror. Remember, you make a burlap bag you are wearing shine. Make that face shine even if you’ve two pimples marinating in region 5 and face region 9 What A Super Model Can Teach a Harvard MBA About Credit https://www.slideshare.net/larrychiang/what-a-super-model-can-teach-a-harvard-mba-about-credit American Express’ Under-Promoted Credit Truths at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW)” https://t.co/inxTmZAj My Stanford Engineering video boils down 20,000 hours and moves you to the right on the entrepreneur bell curve CEO of Duck9 MIT University EIR (Entrepreneur in Residence) Duck9 = “Deep Underground Credit Knowledge” 9 125 University Avenue/ 100 Palo Alto CA 94301 https://www.duck9.com/ass 650-566-9600 650-566-9696 (direct) 650-283-8008 (cell) **************** Editor of the BusinessWeek Channel “What They Don’t Teach at Business School” https://whattheydontteachyouatstanfordbusinessschool.com/blog CNN Video Channel: https://ireport.cnn.com/people/larrychiang Read my last 10 tweets at https://www.Twitter.com/LarryChiang Author, NY Times Bestseller https://whattheydontteachyouatstanfordbusinessschool.com/blog/?s=Ny+times+bestseller “What They Will NEVER Teach You at Stanford Business School” comes out 11-11-14 https://www.fastcompany.com/embed/c0d4562ea2049 52 Cards.
